Council Chair Mel Rapozo was first elected to the Kaua‘i County Council in 2002 and served from 2002-2008. During the various terms within this time period, he served as the Council Vice Chair, Energy & Public Safety Committee Chair, Public Works Committee Chair, Public Safety & Environmental Services Committee Chair, and Environmental Services/Public Safety/Community Assistance Committee Chair. He also served as the President of the Hawai‘i State Association of Counties.
After a brief break, Council Chair Rapozo returned to the Council in 2010 and is currently serving as the Council Chair and Chair of the Council’s Committee of the Whole.
Council Chair Rapozo is a graduate of Kaua‘i High School, Florida Metropolitan University, and Everest University. He is the current owner and operator of M&P Legal Support Services, a private investigation agency, served for 12 years with the Kaua‘i Police Department, retired after 21 years with the Hawaii Air National Guard. He has also served on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations.
Mel resides in Wailua with his wife Patsy and they have two children, Baron and Nicole, who both reside in Oregon.
